Bebé Cinco

Yesterday afternoon, I found a hatchling on our backyard porch. I don’t know how it got there and it was barely moving. We decided we had to do something. Although we weren’t very optimistic, we brought it inside and searched on the web to see what we needed to do. We put it in a box lined with a towel, put it under a lamp to keep it toasty, and fed it watered-down dry cat food. We fed it almost every hour all through the night; the ugly little thing grew on us, getting stronger and more active every hour. By morning, it was trying to walk and started chirping! We called around to several animal rescue organizations and decided to take it to the California Wildlife Center in Malibu. They took Cinco in — that’s what Magsy named him since we found him on Cinco de Mayo — and hopefully we’ll get a call in a few weeks to participate in his release back into the wild! We miss the little guy…

08-Mar-2006 Update: We called CWC today and they told us Cinco didn’t make it. [sniff]
